Morning Murder In Corozal

Also this morning, 28 year-old Corozal resident, Paul Massam, who has had a number of run-ins with police, was shot and killed execution style in Corozal Town.

It's the first murder in that town for the year, and today, we spoke with the Deputy Commander from the Corozal Police about the incident:

Inspector Peter Serrano – Deputy OC, Corozal Town

"Sometime after 8:30 AM on today's date, information was received of shots fired in the skeleton area, Corozal town. As a result police visited the area and on arrival at the area, we were told that a male person was shot and was transported to the Corozal hospital. A team immediately proceeded to the hospital. On arrival at the hospital, the lifeless body of said male person was seen with what appears to be 3 gunshot wounds; one to the right side of the head, and the other one just about the lower cheek and one on his palm. That person was later identified as Paul Massam, 28 years old. Initial investigation reveals that Paul Massam was at this house when he was approached by a lone gunman who fired 3 shots at him, fatally wounding him. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The scene was processed by the scenes of crime technician. At this point in time, we are looking for 3 persons who we know could assist us in this investigation. This investigation continues."

"Also understand Mr. Serrano that in an interview you said that Mr. Massam was about to turn his life around. What exactly do you mean by that?"

Inspector Peter Serrano – Deputy OC, Corozal Town

"Well, I won't go into what or who Paul Massam was but yes I can say that Paul Massam at time would come into the station, he would communicate with police officers around the station and I could say that for almost a year now, Paul Massam hasn't been charged for any criminal act."

Neighbours told the media off camera that a suspicious vehicle was seen parked on this road that leads to the house where Massam was murdered.
