PM Barrow Ascends To Privy Council
posted (March 3, 2016)
All members of the national assembly, 12 Senators and 31 Representatives carry the title "Honourable" before their names. But only two living Belizeans are called "Right Honourable": they are Manuel Esquivel and Said Musa. George Price was also "Right Honourable." All of them are multi-term Prime Ministers. Well, only one PM was left out of that club: Prime Minister Dean Barrow, and, now in his third term, he's "Right Honorable" too.

The Government Press Office made it official today. A release says "Queen Elizabeth the Second has appointed Prime Minister Barrow as a member of the Privy Council." With this, he will now be called Right Honourable Dean Barrow - and that's even after he retires from politics. The appointment was announced on the website of the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom two days ago.

Typically the designation "Right Honourable" is conferred after a prime minister has served two terms - usually ten years, but Barrow did his two terms in just 7 years - so, we imagine the old Queen is just catching up.
