Contraband Clothing?
posted (March 3, 2016)
Two Belizeans were arrested in Mexico this morning for attempting to smuggle three large bundles of clothing. Mexican authorities say that around 3:30 this morning they noted two individuals inside a red Toyota van with Belize taxi plates acting suspiciously. The men are described in a Mexican newspaper report only as 36 year old Cristobal N, and 32 year old Cesar N, both residents of Corozal. The men were travelling on the main Highway in Chetumal when upon reaching the entrance to the community of Ucum which is near the Rio Hondo, the police pulled them over. When they were informed that a search would be conducted, police say that the men began acting nervous. That's when the federales came upon the three large plastic bags which contained an assortment of clothing. The men were asked for documentation to prove that they were transporting the goods legally but they could not provide any. As a result both Cristobal and Cesar were escorted to the customs Department in Subteniente Lopez to be prosecuted for the offence.
