Osmar: “Christie Stabbed Herself While Trying To Hurt Me”
posted (March 15, 2016)
6 days ago, we told you about the start of the murder trial without jury of 30 year-old Osmar Sabido, who was accused by police of stabbing her common-law wife, 21 year-old Christie Carrasco to Death.

Well, the prosecution closed it's case today against him, and this afternoon in Orange Walk before Justice Herbert Lord, he gave his version of how the deadly incident played out at their home at the San Lorenzo Housing Area of the town on February 28, 2011.

He said that he arrived home at around 6 p.m., and he met Christie Carrasco at the house who approached him and accused him of being with another woman. They started to argue, and she demand to know why he was late. The argument continued in their kitchen, where tried to ignore, and she eventually left in the car.

Sabido says that she returned at sometime between 8 and 8:30 p.m., and she continued the argument they had 2 hours earlier. During that discussion, Sabido says that Carrasco told him that she suspected that she was pregnant for another man. He said that he reacted to that news and slapped her, and he went to the kitchen once again. He said that he sat down on a chair for a few minutes, when he heard footsteps behind him. Sabido says that he turned around just in time to see her make a stabbing motion toward. He told the court that he reacted, grabbed her hand, and a struggle ensued. He tried to restrain her, but according to Sabido, Carrasco applied force to the hand with the knife trying to overpower, but he managed to make a sudden jerking movement away from her. Sabido says that when he got out of the way in time, Carrasco wasn't expecting it, and she ended stabbing her leg and cutting her finger.

Sabido told the court that when he saw her bleeding, he got frightened and walked toward the hall. Sabido said that Carrasco followed him, and while he was trying to get out of the house, Carrasco grabbed him by the shirt and tried to stab him yet again. He says that they struggled once again, and at the climax of that second attack, Carrasco injured herself while trying to hurt him. He says that he panicked when he realized that she had been gravely injured, and he grabbed the knife, placed in his car, and that's when police arrived and arrested him.

But, of note is that the last witness that the prosecution called today was the medical examiner, Dr. Mario Estradabran, and he told the court, he saw 3 stab wounds and a cut wound on Carrasco body. The doctor told the court that the fatal injury was a stab wound to the middle of her chest, which penetrated her heart and left lung. The doctor told the court that in his best knowledge as a medical examiner, this was a defensive wound. That testimony may be in direct contradiction to Sabido's account of the stabbing this afternoon, and his attorney, Oscar Selgado, challenged Estradabran on that. Under cross examination, the Dr. Estradabran told the court that though he strongly believes this fatal injury was defensive in nature, it is only a medical opinion and not a statement of fact.

The case continues tomorrow, where the defence is expected to wrap up.
