Meighans Vs Police; The Saga Continues
posted (March 15, 2016)
There is speculation that the well-known Meighan brothers had been investigated for Lemott's murder but police have not confirmed that. Well, whether it is confirmed or not it seems police carried out some sort of unexplained raid this morning.

Now, you've heard quite often in this newscast about the Meighan brothers coming in conflict with the police, but today's incident, was somewhat different. Today one of the Meighan sisters told us off camera that the GSU barged into their house at 3 this morning and brutally attacked her and her brothers. Here is her account.

Voice of Meighan's Sister, Claims Police Brutality
"Sometime after 3:30 minutes to 4pm I would say, I heard banging on all the windows, all the doors. So I told them to identify themselves. They were saying police. So I ask to please identify yourselves so that I know it's the police and not someone outside pretending to be the police. Within 3 minutes I opened the door. About 6 police were on the verandah and they had some in the yard, all around the yard. I even gave them the key to open the door from outside, because they were trying to break it down with a stick. As the first police open the door with the key, he pulled me. I had my 3 months nephew in my hands and he pulled me by my hair outside for no reason. I wasn't being bad. Because if a police is doing their job, then fine, do you job. Come and arrest and take them. As I opened that door they pulled me by my hair - they out my two brothers. The others boys that were there, they pulled them out and they started a beating. They had a white pipe. I showed you my bruises. This is only two whap, my brothers received over 20-30 plus whap each. I watched 6-7 GSU against one of my brother while the next one is on the ground. So he fell, they kick him up back. They punch and kick and whop him all over his body and he have the bruises to show, just like I have the bruises to show. I thought it had done there. I was screaming at the tip of my voice as loud as I can, to just let the neighbor heard - to save us from the police, because the police came to kill. They didn't come to just charge and arrest."

Meighan also said that the officers chased after her mother with a pipe. Sounds like it was quite a scene at the Meighan's residence this morning but Senior Superintendent Chester Williams says no matter how colorful their narrative is, he makes no apologies. Here is his response this incident.

ACP Chester Williams, OC - Southside ED
"Many parents have been grieving, had been on the TV crying, suffering having loss their love ones at the hands of people. One packet of people out there who seemingly want to terrorize Belize City. And that behavior will not be tolerated and I mean that. It will not be tolerated. When it comes to going after them, we will go after them and they can go and shout and scream on the TV for all I care. I will tell you the people of Belize City are tired of them. I'm not speaking specifically to Miss Meighan or whatever, but all those persons who are out there committing criminal acts, causing grieve to parents for having taken their love ones. It needs to come to an end. And as the police, we will do what we need to do to bring the matter to an end. I will not tolerate them."

"So, those persons who complain, they complaint will refer to internal affairs department to investigate and the chips will fall where they may. I will tell you though that often time police goes to these houses and they want to attack the police, want to threaten the police and expect that the police must just remain there like a statue, allowing them to do what they want to do to the police. That will not happen. If you assault the police and you resist arrest, the police will do what is necessary to subdue you and get you into custody."

Meighan's sister was taken to court and charged with obstruction of justice, threatening words, resisting arrest and using obscene language. She spoke with us shortly after getting bail.
