OW Protestors Want Justice For Christie
posted (March 21, 2016)
Today, residents of Orange Walk Town went in front of the Court House to demonstrate their outrage over the Christie Carrasco case. As we've been reporting, accused murderer, Osmar Sabido is on trial right now for the stabbing death of his common-law wife, Christie Carrasco, who was killed in February of 2011.

The prosecution has called witnesses to testify against Sabido, and in response, he's claimed self-defense. He claims that he didn't kill Carrasco, and that she attacked him with a knife and fatally injured herself while trying to hurt him. Some in the community say that this is an outrageous claim, and so when he was marched into court today, they stood on the street with picket signs.

Our colleagues from CTV 3 News were at the courthouse, and they spoke with a few of the protesters:

Well, it appears that the prosecution is of a similar view that Sabido's defense testimony has inconsistencies. Court reports say that the Crown Counsel made an application to the Court requesting that 3 witnesses be allowed to give testimony which directly rebuts Sabido's version of how the incident unfolded. The court has adjourned the case until tomorrow to give Sabido's attorney, Oscar Selgado time to respond to the Prosecution's application.
