No Confirmed ZIKA Cases In Belize
posted (March 22, 2016)
For the most part the global public health alarm over Zika has subsided. But, because it's all around us, Belize is one of those countries which remains on alert for any possible cases of Zika. Many Latin and Caribbean countries are still testing samples and monitoring cases - but so far Belize remains Zika free. Today Figueroa told us that they have sent 4 samples for testing and all have come back negative for Zika.

Dr. Ramon Figueroa, CEO - Ministry of Health
"We're still negative. Yesterday we were discussing it with the director of health services and I was informed that we have sent out 4 samples and they have returned back negative. At this point in time, as far as I know, we don't have any case of interests, anything that seems to indicate any Zika, so hopefully we can continue along that light."

Figueroa also told us that Dengue cases are also on the decline due to their clean up campaigns and of course because it hasn't been raining - meaning the mosquito breeding grounds have dried up.
