B2V: WE WON
posted (March 22, 2016)
The Belizean delegation that left for the US last week to participate in the annual Baker to Vegas footrace is back in the country today. And guess what? They won! It was the first time ever in 32 years of hosting the 120 mile relay that Belize was invited to participate- but they did more than participate. Although there was resounding faith in the Belize team, certainly no one expected them to do so well. They clocked in at a time of 7 hours and 11 minutes, which won them first place in the mixed category. They also ranked them 6th over all- out of 269 teams.

Today they arrived back in Belize City to much fanfare. A motorcade followed them through the streets of Belize City, rounded the corner of Albert and Regent Street and made it back to the Belize Protectors Headquarters in front of Home Protectors Insurance. There we met up with the entourage who was greeted and honored with the respect reserved soldiers returning home from war.

So while this race is over, the Team Committee, after being invited for next year's challenge, hopes to getting the team rounded up for September. But, they must first cover all their expenses for this trip. The committee says they managed to raise 65% of their budget of $100 thousand dollars. Only problem is: they spent about $50 thousand dollars more. They are now turning to the public for further assistance in covering these expenses.
