Honduras Football Prez Pleads Guilty
posted (March 30, 2016)
Rafael Callejas is the former president of Honduras, and also the former President of Honduras's Soccer Federation. He has pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, admitting he solicited hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to award contracts for media and marketing rights to World Cup qualifier matches. Callejas said he distributed a significant portion of his bribes to delegates of the Honduran football federation so he could remain president, which he did from 2002 to August 2015.

Callejas will be sentenced on 5 August and could face up to 40 years in prison.

Belize is the only country in Central America where no soccer official has been indicted in the FIFA scandal.
