Villager Falls On Road, Gets Run Over
posted (April 1, 2016)
A Trial Farm villager was run over and killed after he fell on the road. Last night at around 9:40 police were called out to Trial Farm in Orange Walk between miles 55 and 56. That's when they saw 40 year old Hilberto Coyoc splayed on the road. He was bleeding out from his head. An eyewitness told our colleagues at CTV 3 that she and some friends saw when Coyoc fell over on the road. They tried to save him but they were too late.

Voice of: Witness
"I was right there by the Chinese man with my sister-in-law, my brother and his friends and I saw a man come out from the dark and I saw him fall. It was dark though and then when I went over to see him, the car was already on top of him. So I couldn't do anything to pull him off the road, because he was in the middle of the road. I and the others who were standing by ran over to try and stop the vehicle, but it was already on top of him."

And police have pretty much the same information - they told CTV3 what they have on the case so far

PC Roger Briceno, Traffic Unit, OW Police
"A Hispanic male person later identified as Hilberto Coyoc, a Belizean of Trial Farm Village was seen face down bleeding from his head and he had multiple bruises to his body. Police investigation revealed that sometime at about 9:35pm, Benjamin Carillo Sr. was driving a Mazda car from the direction of Trial Farm towards Otro Benque Road, when reaching the mentioned area, he ran over Hilberto Coyoc, who is alleged was laying on the road."

Police told us that they can't confirm why Coyoc just fell on the road but they confirmed that he does have a drinking habit and he might have been drunk last night. As for the driver of the car, 60 year old Benjamin Carrillo, he has been served with a notice of intended prosecution. Also police are awaiting the results of Carrillo's urine test to see if he was drinking.
