Sara’s Sibling Says She Was On Sidewalk when SUV Hit
posted (April 13, 2016)

The family of Dangriga accident victim Sara Suchite says it didn’t happen the way police reported it. As we told you, Suchite was knocked down and killed yesterday morning at mile one and a half on the Stann Creek Valley road. She had just gotten out of a taxi and was crossing the road when Elroy Coleman’s SUV slammed into her. When we spoke to Suchite’s brother this evening after the post mortem, he told us that his family and the taxi driver saw everything. They say that she had already crossed the road and was going to buy fry chicken when the driver ran her over. She was launched into the air, landed a distance away and died immediately. Her brother Samuel Suchite gave us his family’s version of the accident.

Samuel Suchite - Brother
"I went to run an errand at the hospital – just to fill out a form for a license but when I was coming back, I saw that police were out on the street and a lot to people were there too, so I went closer to see and I was there like for about 30 minutes trying to find out what was happening. So when I left, I went to the market where my family was and that’s when they told me it was my sister who was dead. My sister got out of the taxi and crossed the road, she had already crossed the road when the vehicle came too much to the side and came with speed, he was driving…fast and he didn’t even push the brakes, there were no tire tracks, nothing. What I demand is justice, because you know that a sister is …is your blood and you feel it hard when she leaves your side and so I want the full weight of the law to be brought."

Sara Suchite was 19 years old - not 21 as police had reported. She lived with her family in Benguche, Dangriga. Now apart from justice, the family is also calling on Coleman to assist them with funeral and other expenses.
