Emily’s Exasperation
posted (April 13, 2016)

You may remember Emily Gabourel from an interview she did last week. She is the mother of the Chavarria brothers: Jamie who was gunned down in March 2015 and Rene who was killed one year later. In an interview with us last week she called out the Ladyville police formation for allegedly dragging their feet in her son’s murder investigation.

The matter would have ended there but now Gabourel is claiming that police are harassing her. According to her, she was alone at her Ladyville home with her 3 year old grandson sometime after 6:00 this morning. She was getting ready for work, when police officers from the strike team barged into her house and allegedly began acting disrespectfully. What happened next was the greatest disgrace a woman could ever face. Here is her story.

Emily Gabourel - Claims Police Harassment
"I was at home giving my grandson tea and I gave him his breakfast, he ate breakfast and I hear wrapping at the door. Police, police, open the door or else we will broke it down! Open the door! And I said excuse me I just going to go bathe just wait I'm the come because I push the chair against the door to make my grandson no go out the door while I the bathe. My daughter in law mi inna the room the sleep and I got my hand up against the wall by my room door and I the wait and the police said move from here and the same way they move they the move me. I said I need to put on my clothes, they never make I put on mi clothes, they pull mi towel from around me and see my nakedness the police them. Then I tell them I say unno have no right and I start to tell them off and I tell them you betta have some respect unno never come in my house with respect so how should I respect unno? I say unno could a mi come and tell me peacefully miss I have a search to do. Unno no come in and wa, they say we will broke down your door, unno wa broke down my door, pull my towel and one of them slap me."

Emanuel Pech
"Did they at any point show you a search warrant of any sort?"

Emily Gabourel - Claims Police Harassment
"They didn't show me any search warrant, any search warrant. They went into my son's room, thats to tell you they only wa harrass me. They gone inna mi son room, I have my grandson hair before his mommy cut it I tell ah I want the hair to make a little pillow. They gone in and thought it was weed, they say ooo, weed, weed, weed; when they gone in da mi grandson hair they find. Please, I the ask the police department, I even afraid that anybody threaten me fi go to the police da Ladyville because I dunno, we noh have no law in this country anymore, we noh have no rights."

Emanuel Pech
"What were police there for? Did they tell you what they were searching for?"

Emily Gabourel - Claims Police Harassment
"All when they come inna the house, guns and ammunition and drugs. I tell them I have no drugs here and I tell they if unno mi come with manners and respect I no mi wa ansa unno but they disrespect me, they see my nakedness, they pull my towel and the next one slap me. I know this gwen just like that just like how my son gone like that, this gwen just like that because it’s the police department. But I'm asking Mr. Whylie to please check on this and I'm calling on Mr. John Saldivar. I am fed up of it. I done tell they mi son done dead what unno the harrass me fa? They done dead, unno done make they kill they why are you harrasing me?"

Now according to the Deputy Commander of Ladyville Inspector Juanito Cocom, there was a legitimate search warrant for firearms and drugs at her house. And as to the allegation that she was stripped naked, Inspector Cocom told us that the team commander affirmed that no such thing happened. The team commander further alleged that it was in fact they who were abused by Gabourel and that it got to the point that she made several derogatory comments about the skin color of one of their team members.

Police added that the search warrant was part of a wider operation to clean out the bushes across from the residence so no one could, quote, "conceal themselves to target her family. Or vice versa.â€￾ Inspector Cocom said they remain opened to receiving any formal complaint from the family which will be followed up with an investigation. In the mean time Gabourel and her family say they will be exploring their legal options.
