posted (April 28, 2016)
And while that's where the Guatemalans are going - Belize is looking to the Commonwealth for a diplomatic boost. The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Janet Scotland, is in Belize tonight - her first stop on a tour of the Commonwealth Caribbean. She'll stay through to Monday, and on Monday, the Prime Minister announced that Belize would be seeking diplomatic support through her office:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Janet Scotland, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth visits Belize later this week. I will fully brief her and ask for a meeting of the Commonwealth Standing Ministerial Committee on Belize to be convene. Foreign Minister Elrington attends the UK/Caribbean Summit on Friday in the Bahamas and will brief a CARICOM caucus convene for the morning of that meeting."

While in Belize, Baroness Scotland will also visit the OAS Adjacency Zone Office.

A press release notes that Baroness Scotland was born in Dominica and has a distinguished career as an attorney, educator, and public officer. At the age of 35 she was the first black woman to become a Queen's Counsel. In 2007 she was appointed Attorney General in the United Kingdom, making it the first time a woman held that post since it was created in the year 1315.
