Cops Gone Clear
posted (June 6, 2016)
Back in February of 2013, Police Constables Phillip Swift and John Galvez were accused of stealing a City Councilor's wife's purse. But tonight, they're free of all charges after the Magistrate's Court found them not guilty and acquitted them.

According to the complainant, Carolee Samuels, wife of Dean Samuels, she dropped her purse in front of Oxygen Boutique on Freetown Road on November 16, 2012 at around 1:20 p.m. She said that 2 hours later, the police contacted her and told her that they recovered the purse. When they handed it over, she searched it and realized that $500 dollars cash, her identification cards, bank cards and other personal items were missing.

She reported the incident to the police and that's how these two Constables, Swift and Galvez ended up being charged 3 months later. Well, today, the criminal trial concluded against both men in the court room of Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith. She heard evidence from the prosecution, which included surveillance footage which purported to capture both men with the purse.

Well, after months of hearing evidence from both men, she delivered her judgement that there was no evidence, including the security video, which proved that the men stole from the City Councillor's wife. With that she acquitted both men who were emotional at the outcome of the case.
