Dialysis Nurses Take On Taiwan
posted (June 6, 2016)
4 Belizean medical professionals are heading to Taiwan next week for training in Kidney disease. Dr. Glenford Jones and Michelle Cassimiro from the KHMH, and Dr. Marvin Efrain Camal and Dieudonne Sah Tiemula from La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital are all leaving on June 13th to the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in New Taipei City, Taiwan. This is all part of the "Renal Failure Prevention Project" which Belize and Taiwan signed onto in February of this year. In a press release sent today it states " The purpose of the project is to treat the patients at the early stage to… effectively reduce the socio-economic cost of the whole society." It also states that this program is very important because based on the statistics "the prevalence rate of obesity in Belize is over 60% and hypertension and Diabetes mainly contribute to the development of chronic renal failure." When these general practitioners and dialysis nurses return after the 2 month training, they will in turn train medical personnel in Belize. They all return on August 12th.
