Two For Thirteen Turtles
posted (June 8, 2016)

Last night, we showed you the 2 men who were caught by the Fisheries Department with 17 large Hicatee turtles. Well today, those men, Golburn Seguro, and his nephew, Hilberto Seguro, were taken to court for it. They are charged with possession of Hicatee Turtles and possession of a Hicatee net. Golburn Seguro was charged with only 1 of the turtles, while Hilberto Seguro was charged for 13 of them.

When they were arraigned before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza today, they pleaded not guilty to the charges, and they were granted bail.

According to the Fisheries Department, after conducting surveillance for over a week, they stopped Golburn Seguro’s vehicle at the Lords Bank junction yesterday afternoon. The officers searched the vehicle, and found 3 hicatee turtles, and shortly after that, they launched an investigation which took them to Hilbert Seguro's home in Biscayne. That's when they found 13 more inside his house, and those are the 13 for which he now stands charged.

According to the Fisheries Department, Hicatee turtles are endangered, and they have a strict open and closed season, which need to be enforced.
