Who Killed Lyndon Murillo and Why?
posted (June 10, 2016)
A well known security guard and handy man, 55 year old Lyndon Murillo was killed in Mahogany Heights. The shooting happened last night at around 8:15 when his body was found face up on the side of the road. It was a horrific discovery for the family and the villagers who could never imagine that Murillo would meet his end in this manner. Today our news team visited Mahogany Heights to get more answers in this puzzling case.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Lyndon Murillo lived and worked at this grocery store for about 3 years. The owners gave him a place to stay at the back of the shop and, in turn, Murillo took care of the store. But he moved out in the middle of last year and began working as a handy man in the village.

But last night after he finished some repair work, he was riding home when he was murdered.

ACP Edward Broaster, OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Initially the investigation revealed that he was riding his bicycle on his way home when someone ambushed him from behind and inflicted 2 gunshot wounds. One to his foot and one to his back which exited the right side of his chest."

It was Murillo's family and a few residents who found his body here on the road right next to his favourite bicycle and a plate of food.

Marsha Major - Daughter in Law
"All I came and I yelled 'waked up my mom' and I told my mom that they said that they just shot Mr. Chako, dead or alive I don't know. When I went into the yard his mom called and asked me what happened. I told her, well I was asleep and this is what I heard happened, he got shot. She then asked me if he's dead or alive? I told her, well you need to call me back so I can go out there and then I will see. When I reached at the scene with my mom, it's then that I realized that he got shot and he's dead. At the time all I could have done was breakdown because me and father in law was very close. he had close relationship."

Murillo's execution has shocked everyone and at this point, the police can't provide much information.

ACP Edward Broaster, OC, Eastern Division Rural
"At this time we do not have any further information. Our investigation continues into this matter. We don't have any motive as yet for this shooting in Mahogany Heights."

But now the family and the entire village are left wondering why anyone would want to kill Murillo. The only thing his daughter in law could think of is that this is a case of mistaken identity:

Marsha Major - Daughter in Law
"He is not a person that troubles people. He walks around, he's loved by everyone in this village because people know him as watchy. He used to be the watchman at the shop. He is just a person that would walk around, he would laugh, he would talk, he would tell you fool. If you ever come around him, trust me you will laugh, because that is the type of person who he is. So, for something like this to happen to someone like that it's really tragic. I don't swear for anyone. Yes, my boy he, like they would have say he is a Gaza man, but its not something that he was doing a long time. Yes, he rolls with them but to be honest for this killing, I don't know if it was probably mistaken identity or what but to be honest I don't know. I can't give a motive, I can't give a clue. What could possibly gone wrong?"

Courtney Weatherburne
"Maybe they wanted your boyfriend."

Marsha Major - Daughter in Law
"I don't know, maybe that could be it. I don't know. I really don't know."

It's that same doubt and fear that plagues this community. Murillo's murder is just one of many crimes and Major says their cries for justice and safety as a village, have gone unanswered.

Marsha Major - Daughter in Law
"All I want the police to do is to buckle up. Things need to get better in this village here because too much crime is happening and no justice. No one is going to jail for anything, no arrest, nothing is happening. People are dying. Their lives are going just like that."

Murillo had 3 sons and 2 daughters, the youngest being 11 years old. We will keep following this case.
