Will Rivera’s Death Be Vindicated?
posted (June 10, 2016)
Market Vendor Miguel Rivera was killed at the Michael Finnegan Market in 2011, and today the trial against his alleged killers started in the Supreme Court.

Ronlee Petillo and Matthew Smith are accused of simply walking up to Rivera and shooting him in front of other vendors - supposedly retaliation for a robbery Rivera had helped to thwart earlier that day.

But the trial without jury started out on the wrong foot when the police identification parade was ruled inadmissible.

So, today in court, the prosecution asked for the only eyewitness to make a dock identification of the pair, but Petillo's attorney, Anthony Sylvestre objected. So, the prosecutor withdrew its application for the dock ID but told the court that it will try again after the witness has completed his testimony. The case continues on Monday, June 13.
