80 Years For Rape, Fidel Williams Wants Freedom
posted (June 10, 2016)
So while those stories are coming out of the CCJ, and the Supreme Court, we have a story coming out of Belize's other high court, the Court of Appeal. 50 year-old Fidel Williams went before them to appeal a conviction of 10 counts of rape. He's serving an 80-year prison sentence, and he is seeking to overturn both.

He was convicted back in April 2011 at the Dangriga Supreme Court. The crimes which he is convicted of committing happened between March, 2005 and November, 2006, in Dangriga. The victim was 21 years old at the time. Williams' attorney, Leeroy Banner argued that the sentence was excessive.

After today's session the Appeal Court panel decided that they will hear further arguments on it.
