Did Drinking Cop Get Off Easy?
posted (June 13, 2016)
A police officer will face disciplinary action but not criminal charges after he fired gunshots in public. It happened near Perez Road area in Ladyville on Friday night around 9:30. According to reports, Detective Constable Urbie Alamilla was off duty that night and was drinking and socializing with 2 friends when he pulled out his department issued gun and fired 3 shots in the air. That created a public uproar, and this video was taken in the aftermath and posted on Facebook . It shows an apparently inebriated Alamilla laid out on the street, and also confronting a fellow police officer who was trying to bring order to the chaotic scene. Residents in the area crowded the officer demanding that he be charged for firing his weapon - but they warned that knowing the police, he wouldn't be charged. And it seems they were right. When we spoke to Assistant Commissioner of Police for Eastern Rural Division Edward Broaster , he told us that this matter will not be dealt with criminally because Alamilla did not point or fire the gun at anyone and so no one's life was threatened. Alamilla will only be disciplined for his unruly public behavior. We note that discharging a firearm in public is an offence for which there is automatic remand. It is also an offence for a gun license holder to be inebriated while using his weapon. In this case, police don't have to have a gun license.

And while Alamilla got a very big bly, he's also very grateful. He today posted on Facebook quote, "God showed me I am not perfect and sometimes do mistakes as human beings…God worked through my boss...thanks boss..."
