posted (June 15, 2016)

And while that’s the new airport, what about the new cruise port? Well, the future of the cruise tourism in Belize seems to be settling on the idea of a cruise port in South Side Belize City. Talks continue and just last week, the stakeholders met for further consultation. Tourism Minister Heredia gave us an update.

Hon. Manuel Heredia - Minister of Tourism
"If I'm not mistaken it was last week that we met with a group. They are looking also in partnership with Royal Caribbean it is not a done deal but they are doing their feasibility study and a lot has been done. I wasn't conscious that a lot had been done during the time of the part administration and Royal Caribbean and I don't know if it was Belize Bank or what other but everybody is teaming up to see how we can develop the Port Loyola Port, finalize that one. To me as the minister I believe that the economic impact to Southside Belize City and then it will avoid also the congestion that we have around the village with so many buses having to be around that area. That area I believe can be designed, there is sufficient land over there to develop a first class port for Belize City and bring in an economic impact to the Southside Belize City."

The new investors are reported to be associated with the Ashcroft Alliance.
