“Southie" Murdered At his Home on Kraal Road
posted (June 20, 2016)
For the past 2 newscasts, we've been reporting on the violent crimes in the Eastern Division. First there was the broad daylight murder of a man as he was attending a funeral, and then there was the daring execution attempt of a known gang figure. That one was staged in front of the country's biggest police station, and it ended with a police officer down after he engaged the shooter in a gunfight.

Well, over the weekend, there were 2 more murders in the Eastern division, one in Belize City, and another in Hattieville. We start first with the murder of Edison Williams, which happened right on his neighborhood of Kraal Road on Friday night. Although a known gang area, Kraal Road had been dormant for a while. So just what led to this latest homicide? Our news team went out this morning looking for answers and Emanuel Pech has that story:

33 year old Edison Williams, was gunned down sometime between 7 and 8 on Friday night as he was socializing inside his own yard on Kraal Road. He was sitting in this corner when the gunman road up to him from this alley and let loose a barrage of bullets in his direction.

Primlee Andrews- Wife of Deceased
"I was outside there on the corner of the street sitting down at the front. I, my daughter and a friend were talking and my gentleman was sitting in the yard by himself. I just heard gun shots go off, but I didn't know it was him."

His land lord rushed him to the hospital and that is where police met with the dying man.

ACP Chester Williams- O. C., Eastern South Division
"Police subsequently visited the KHMH where they saw Edison Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was being taken into surgery. Around 5am the following morning, he succumbed to his injuries. Apparently he was the intended target because, from what we understand, the gunman actually spoke to him, and said certain things to him before shooting him."

Primlee Andrews- Wife of Deceased
"All I saw was a dark tall person, I couldn't make out his face because he had on a hat. I just saw his hand going up, shooting him down there."

Police wouldn't say just how many shots were fired but we understand they were multiple. But just why would anyone want Williams dead? That is the question that family members and police are still left to wonder.

Voice of - Sister of Deceased
"Well he was a good-mannerly person, always smiling, always friendly, he wasn't a bad person to how the streets would put it, he wasn't a bad person to us. I don't know why they'd kill him but maybe it's just the way the world is set up right now."

Emanuel Pech
"Was it expected that he would be targeted in such a way?"

Voice of- Mother of Deceased
"Well, in this world right now, you have to expect anything."

Primlee Andrews- Wife of Deceased
"I myself was left confused, I don't know why because he was in his yard and they went way in there to take his life. I don't know why."

Edison Williams or 'Southie', as he was more commonly known, had been to jail 8 years ago but according to his family and friends he was trying to turn life around. Reporting for 7 news Emanuel Pech.

Edison Williams leaves behind a wife and two kids. According to police there is nothing to suggest that this latest homicide is anyway connected to last week's murders.
