Labour Department Reviewing Monima’s Severance Terms
posted (June 21, 2016)
Another labour matter which has landed on the desk of the Labour Commissioner is case of Audibaldo Monima. As viewers are aware, he's the recently hired Northern Regional Health Manager who was forced to resign after he was exposed as being unqualified for the job.

It ended up turning into a fiasco where the Ministry of Health has to find something for the former Coast Guard Officer to do for the next 3 months in a field for which he has no experience. Alternatively, the Ministry can choose to send him home and pay him for 3 months' salary, for work he did not complete.

The Ministry of Labour has the balance equity in this case, which means that the terms of his contract must be followed. So today, we spoke with the Minister of Labour, and the Labour Commissioner about it. Here's what they had to say:

Hon. Hugo Patt - Minister of Labour
"That is a situation that we are looking with the Ministry of Health. I am not in that capacity to give you the details, but certainly that is one in which we have engaged for us to see how best we can find a solution to that particular case."

Reporter
"Sir in terms of fairness in labour which is one of the principles you all operate under. Did you have concerns about his appointment?"

Hon. Hugo Patt - Minister of Labour
"We got to know about it, as I said we have the Commissioner of Labour looking into that situation. In terms of fairness I can tell you that fairness is extended to everybody it doesn't apply to a particular person or to a particular individual or a particular entity. We have a service to do and that service we do with our best capacity to all."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir, because of the error that in hiring Mr. Monima we understand that has sort of getting away with some monies from the government in which because he has resign, he has to be given his 3 months' salary severance, but he hasn't worked to deserve that severance."

Hon. Hugo Patt - Minister of Labour
"I'm not fully detailed as to the hiring of Mr. Monima, but certainly that is one that we would look with all closeness and certainly, we'll make sure that whatever has to be done in terms of legalities, those will be applied."

Ivan Williams - Labour Commissioner
"Like I said we've received complaints and we are going to look into it. I cannot give more details than that, because we are professionals, we don't talk about people case in the media."
