PACT: How To Make Most Of Conservation Funding
posted (June 21, 2016)
Yesterday we told you about the PACT forum to discuss the way forward using PACT's new formed policy. As we told you PACT is changing the way it does business, restructuring from acting as an organization which only provides grants, to one that actually invests in the environment.

Now PACT is just feeling its way around these new set of responsibilities. And while they have yet to come up with a long term strategic plan to accommodate the new legislation, the organization is already changing the way it invests. They are switching their priorities on where they put their money. This fiscal year PACT has set a portfolio of 1.2 million dollars which they hope to disburse in three main areas. The Chairman of PACT Dr. Collin Young gave us the break down yesterday.

Dr. Collin Young - Chairman. PACT Board
"The truth of the matter is that PACT will never be able to fund all of the cost associated with protected areas in Belize as a result the co-management partners have to continue to assist in leveraging and mobilizing their own financial resources to assist in the management of the protected areas that they could manage. Thus, we thought that that's and extremely important area because the better we can help them to help themselves the more money we can raise for the entire system and those that are better at raising money, means that there might be more funds available to other partners who are not nearly as good at raising funds but who are managing the important sites for this system. So, that's the envelope, 1.2 million for those 3 areas. Institutional and government strengthening financial sustainability and resourceful mobilization and protected areas management functions."

Grant proposals can be submitted up until August 2016.
