PUP Urges SSB Not To Cooperate
posted (June 22, 2016)

Well, the PUP has also gotten that report, and not surprisingly, they completely disagree with the move that the Government intends to make.

Today, when the media asked Opposition Leader John Briceno about it, he made a public plea to the SSB Board to reconsider approving it:

Hon. John Briceno - PUP Party Leader
"Our concern is that here we have the government dumping their shares of these utilities to Social Security whereby their putting our monies; the people's monies, the workers' monies at risk, 48 million dollars BTL is going to be saddled with. I am calling the attention of all Belizeans to be aware of what is going on that the government is broke, they are desperate and now they are trying to do anything possible to get their hands on money and now they want to get their hands on the people's monies and the worker's monies on Social Security. We're also demanding that the Social Security Board be aware that they have fiduciary responsibility to all the workers of this country that not because they have been appointed by their political bosses dictates them to do but that they are there to protect the interest of the workers."

The SSB Board of Directors meets tomorrow to decide on the recommendation form the investment committee.
