Yesterday we told you about Belize's overall performance at the 17th annual Central American Seniors Championships held over the weekend in El Salvador. Our delegation did not participate in all events however our small team still managed to bring back a total of 12 medals: 6 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. Yesterday we only got a chance to speak with Katy Sealy. So today we set off to track down all those home grown athletes, who told us about their experience at Track and Field tournament over the weekend. We start first with Tricia Flores and Shaun Gill. Flores managed to secure two gold medals. First in the relay and then in the long jump breaking the Central American record for the long jump in the process.
Now although this was the Seniors Championships, a few of our junior athletes also participated. The 17 year old track and field twins Ashantie Carr and Ashontie Carr performed remarkably well. One of them even managed to secure a bronze medal and broke the national record in the long jump. 16 year old Faith Morris also held her own and brought back a gold medal.
Out of the 13 records that were broken Belize held 6. Our team broke the record for the 100 meter female dash, the long jump, the triple jump, the female four by 100 meter sprint, shot pot, and in the heptathlon race.
