Shop owners Charged For Running Red On Controlled Prices
posted (June 28, 2016)
If you frequent the grocery store, you'll know that all kinds of malpractice happens behind the counter, from scales that aren't accurate to prices that just don't gel. Well, the Belize Bureau of Standards has convicted four storeowners for shady commercial practices. Stores in Corozal, and PG were convicted of not displaying the prices of controlled items - like rice and sugar. Unethical store owners often do this so that they can secretly sell above the controlled price - once you take the product up to the cash register. Well, J Mart Supermarket in Corozal did it and they got fined $150.00, while PG Shop in Punta Gorda Town got fined $500 for the same.

Also in PG, Brad's Store, And Jose Maria Store were selling controlled items at prices above what's allowed so they were fined five hundred dollars as well.

No doubt this is just a drop in the bucket, but the Bureau says it is doing tis monitoring and other cases are in the pipeline.
