Action At The Auction
posted (June 30, 2016)
A crowd of city residents stampeded through the gates of the Queen Street Police Station this morning, and it wasn't to make mass complaints or to visit their loved ones in lock down, they were there for the auction. The police auctioned off a number of items from old rusted bicycles and motorcyles to household appliances. But it was more than just the auction, today was a full fun day with a Red Wingle raffle and an all day fair. Northside Public Relations Officer Fitzroy Yearwood told us about today's initiative.

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood, PR - Eastern Division North
"First of all this is the most highly anticipated auction. as you know this is our first for this year and we had to do a lot of planning because it coincides with our all day fair event and the raffle of our Police Wingle Pickup that should take place 7:30 tonight. Then we have a big dance that follows with free entrance. We will then have beverages at what we call the lowest possible price that you can get it. It's the first of its kind, we have decided to amalgamate everything, put the auction along with the fair and we know that the people are out here, they've been out here from 7:30 this morning. we have a series of items, we have a lot of bicycles, I see that we have motorbikes, fans, washing machine, other house hold items, chain saw, ice coolers, a whole lot of items, things that I know people have interest in buying. I know we have a couple vehicles that will also be auctioned because like I said it's an open playground. These are countrywide items, stolen items, some of them confiscated, some found property, but we put them through a process where we advertise to the general public and if no one comes in and claim them then we put them up for auction."

The Red Wingle Raffle will be drawn tonight at 7:30 followed by a free dance open to the public inside the station's upstairs canteen.
