After The Fire, The Philanthropy
posted (June 30, 2016)
It's been 4 days now since that terrible fire in the heart of downtown San Pedro, which left 88 persons homeless after 17 buildings caught fire, 11 of them totally destroyed.

Well, today, bulldozers and other heavy equipment were working all day to clean up the block between Pescador Drive, Buccaneer Street, and Black Coral Street. That's where the fire took hold and razed the buildings to the ground.

Apart from the clean-up campaign, the humanitarian efforts continued today with the San Cas Group of Companies pitching in and donating groceries to the 88 fire victims. And, as viewers remember, Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr. told us that they were going to organize a radiothon to raise money to assist those affected. Reliable reports tell us that it started early this morning, and when it closed about 2 hours ago, the organizers managed to secure pledges totaling almost 173 thousand dollars. We're also told that the San Pedro Lions Club has also collected approximately $30,000, and that's funds separately generated, apart from the radiothon.

Belmopan police also collected an impressive collection of food items to send to the island.
