Kieran’s Killer Still A Mystery
posted (July 4, 2016)
Turning now to an update on a murder last week Thursday night. That when 2 young men- 20 year old Kieran Morrison and 18 year old Kent Brooks Jr- were gunned down in front of a yard on La Croix Boulevard. Morrison died shortly after, while Brooks still remains at the hospital in a critical condition. Police had initially detained two persons for that fatal shooting, but both have since been released. As it turns out police have been unsuccessful in gathering statements from witnesses - a recurring problem:

ACP Chester Williams - O.C. Eastern South Division
"Yes we had two persons detained indeed and those persons has been released and like we always say the difficulty getting people to give statements. While we may know who are the perpetrators of those acts, we cannot go with what we know. We must go to court with empirical evidence and we do not have that. So based on that, they were released."

Emanuel Pech
"In this particular case, the police know who they are looking for?"

ACP Chester Williams - O.C. Eastern South Division
"Yes we do."

Now the area of St. Martin's in the South Side of Belize City, is known to be inhabited by two rival gangs and in fact the incident, police had told us, stemmed from one of these rivalries. As a result police have now beefed up their presence in that area in the hopes of preventing the possibility of any retaliatory shootings. ACP Chester Williams spoke to us about those preventative measures that have since been put in place.

ACP Chester Williams - O.C. Eastern South Division
"We do know that that area has two aggressive gangs and the fact that there is a fatal shooting involving them, there is a great potential for a flare-up and as police we normally anticipate these things and put things in place to be able to calm the situation. So separate and a part from interventions that we would normally do, we still put in place measures to be able to monitor the movements of people as well as to be able to be on the ground to conduct relevant stop and search and targeting of those persons that we need to target to let them know that the police are here and you are not going to have you way. We have seen that the measures we have put in place in that area is working. Separate and apart from the checkpoint, we also put additional patrols in the area, so the police presence in that area right now is very high and we will maintain that presence for a long time, because we need to give people a time to heal and if we withdraw without healing, then you find that people will still be angry and will take matters into their own hands."
