Post Masters Converge On Belize
posted (July 12, 2016)
For the rest of the week, the lead officials from the Government Post offices all across the Caribbean will be in Belize for a series of workshops. They're all trying to improve service delivery to their citizens, and so the Universal Postal Union organized a 2 day session explaining how these post officials could access the Quality of Service Fund.

All the Countries who are members of the Universal Postal Union contribute to this fund. But, to access it for financing of improvement projects, they have to go through a very rigorous and transparent process of applying - which sounds to us about as slow moving as that Christmas card that arrived in March!

So, the Universal Postal Union, and it's Caribbean subsidiary, the Caribbean Postal Union, set up this session to explain to its members how they can make the process less cumbersome and tedious - kind of like express mail!

We spoke to the organizers:

Participant
"This is a quality of service fund workshop that's organized by the universal postal union for the Caribbean region. The quality of service fund is a fund that is set up to help developing countries and least developed countries to improve their quality of service of male items, in particular the inbound mail items. So this is with the aim of improving the overall postal network worldwide."

Participant
"The role of Caribbean postal union is to provide technical support to its members. The aim of which is to provide them with the opportunity to improve efficiency to ultimately become more innovative customer focused and sustainable postal service throughout the region. the Caribbean postal union is delighted to be a part of this program and is thankful to the universal postal union, the quantity service fund board for putting this workshop together because we understand that some of the member countries do not know how to access the quality service funds. Some of us have been putting money into the funds for years but not being able to access it, what types of forms to fill out, what criteria must we meet in order to be able to use these funds."

Participant
"We're here in Belize and we're happy that Belize is hosting this workshop so we're expecting that after the workshop, Belize participants here will be empowered or with the capacity would have been built and this would have been passed on to the quality and QSF national coordinator, the post master general and any other staff who has responsibility or work on the project team."

Participant
"In the past, we have accessed this fund. Presently our existing fleet of mail vans were purchased from this fund. Also we have purchased the bicycles that you see our postmen on. Those bicycles were purchased from this fund. As to what will be our next project, immediately we can see the need for replacement of some of our mail vans and that is one of the projects that we will be submitting."

The session continues tomorrow, and then, these officials will "stamp into" another workshop which concludes on Friday.
