Cayo Bomb Threat Slightly More Serious Than Average Prank
posted (July 19, 2016)

When bomb threat calls are made, they are usually bogus; just to scare people or to pull a prank. But the police can’t take any chances and have to follow up on any such report. That is exactly what happened in San Ignacio last night, before police were called out to the Morales murder scene. The cops got a call saying that a bomb was placed at the Chinese store ABC Supermarket. When they rushed over and searched the area, they didn’t find any bomb, only a cordial note written in Spanish pleading for $2,000 dollars. Police told us more about this curious but concerning case.

Supt. Richard Rosado - OC San Ignacio
"On Monday the 18th of July 2016 a caller called the police via 911 and stated that bomb was placed inside ABC store situated on Bullet Tree Road. The K-9 Unit and the BDF bomb experts were subsequently dispatched to the building and during the process no explosive devices were found at the store. In normal circumstances whenever the police receive information of a bomb threat we go through our normal standing operating procedures; we would evacuate everybody from the building and the bomb expert would be called in to declare the building safe. All that was done and I can also confirm that a latter was subsequently delivered to the said business establishment requesting in a polite manner for 2 thousand dollars for protection if not they stated that in the letter that the building would be bombed. We are presently looking for two persons of interest for questioning and we are also trying to locate the vehicle that was involved that took the individual to drop the letter which is a early 80s Cadillac mobile vehicle."

"So after you guys swept the area and evacuated everybody what time was the letter delivered? Was it delivered after the police officers left the scene?"

Supt. Richard Rosado - OC San Ignacio
"Apparently the 911 call came first then the letter was delivered like shortly after like half an hour after."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Then you guys as you guys got to the scene the letter was already there?"

Supt. Richard Rosado - OC San Ignacio
"The letter was already there."

"Do you usually encounter these cases? It sounds quite bizarre as you said before one of the persons that you're looking for is an older man along with a younger man. Yes the individual in question that we are trying to locate is in his late 50s along with a younger individual who is in his mid-20s.â€￾

Supt. Richard Rosado - OC San Ignacio
“Since I took over as the officer commanding the San Ignacio police formation that's 6 months now; this is the first incident we have that dealing with a bomb threat but we are presently trying to identify the registered owner of the number since they called via 911 and we have a caller ID; so we are trying to locate the ID or who is the registered owner. Normally in any instances whether it's a bomb threat or any form of threat we would not take it lightly we would go through our standing operating procedure and put all our measures in place to ensure that the public and the community is safe."

Police are looking for 2 men, one in his 50’s and another younger man. They are also looking for the vehicle in which they drove to the store in to deliver the note. Police say the men stole a license plate from a truck and put it on their car. But police say they are working on tracking them down.
