New GSU Commander Coincidence Not Scandal says Minister
posted (July 25, 2016)
We first reported it last week Thursday, but tonight, it's official: Superintendent Mark Flowers, has been replaced by Inspector Glenn Caliz as the commander of the GSU. Flowers has recently been implicated in a carnal knowledge complaint. The mother of a 14 year old girl reported that Flowers had sexual relations with her underage daughter earlier this year. The girl is now pregnant.

Flowers was also known to be friendly to suspected murderer William Mason. But according to the Minister of National Security none of these are factors that played into the decision to replacing him as the head of the GSU and the timing is mainly coincidental.

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"Both of those things. He was the acting commander I should say, because the commander at the time had been on vacation. I believe that commander has now returned, but the decision was made two weeks ago to replace the commander upon his return and that is what has also happened."

Reporter
"Does this have anything to do with the investigation of Mr. Flowers?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"No it does not."

Reporter
"Does it have any relation to?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"I think I made those statements at the press conference last week. We are giving a new focus and we thought that a change is a good thing at this time. Has nothing at all to do with any misconduct or anything on the part of Mr. Flowers. This was a decision as I said made even before the complaint was made against him."

Reporter
"Has there been any update on the investigation of Mr. Flowers?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"I haven't been updated, but I do believe that this morning, there may have been charges laid, but I haven't been updated."
