PUP Says ASR/BSI To Blame And should Pay For Tonnes Of Bad Molasses
posted (July 25, 2016)
The PUP has joined in the back and forth over who is to blame for the molasses debacle at BSI's Tower Hill Factory. And, not surprisingly, the opposition has come down squarely on the side of the farmers. They say ASR/BSI is to blame for the molasses going bad, and it is quote, "unjust, unreasonable and outrageous" to, quote, "charge the sugar cane farmers two hundred and eighty one thousand, two hundred and thirty three dollars ($281,233.00)."

The release goes unto say, quote, "based on consultations…the PUP has confirmed that the Maillard Reaction was as a direct result of ASR's negligence and failure to follow standard procedures during the liquefying stage of the boiling process." End quote. We stress that ASR/BSI has at all points rejected such a characterization. But the PUP says it's all part of a bigger plan, to, quote, "undermine the sugar cane farmers by creating an unfavorable and frustrating environment with the final objective being the elimination of thousands of hardworking Belizeans." End quote.

And, in a populist gesture, the PUP demands that ASR pay the farmers for the lost molasses, quote, "due to the company's gross negligence."
