32 year-old Gina Conorquie Cherrington, a Belize City resident, is out on bail tonight after a former police officer said that she conned him out of 9 thousand dollars.
Former Special Constable Goldburn Seguro reported to police that when he first met Cherrington, she claimed that she was working as part of the Boots Housing Project. She convinced him that she could get him one of the houses in that project, and so he paid her 9 thousand dollars in 6 different installments. Later on, the former cop realized that he had been scammed, and so he reported Cherrington to the police.
She was arrested and charged with 6 counts of obtaining property by deception, and she was arraigned today before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith. She pleaded not guilty to all charges, and was released on bail of $1,000. She must return to court on September 8.
