Senator Francine Burns Is A Senator No More
posted (August 2, 2016)
Last night we told you all about the moves in the Barrow Cabinet - all owing to the Danny Mason meltdown - which has left Minister John Saldivar as a political hot potato.

Godwin Hulse takes over the Police Department from Saldivar - becoming the first Minister of Police in memory. Saldivar remains Minster of Defence with responsibility for the BDF and the Coast Guard. Hulse remains minister of Immigration. As Hulse moves over from Natural Resources, Attorney General Vanessa Retreage steps in to take that over, while holding unto the AG's Ministry. But, to become a Minister Retreage will have to become a Senator - meaning that one of the existing six government appointed senators will have to step aside to make room for Retreage.

Yesterday the Prime Minister the press he could not announce who would be stepping aside, since he had yet to speak with that person. We understand he did so late yesterday and that it is Francine Burns, the young attorney from Orange Walk.

Burns is an attorney and has run for the UDP before as a town council candidate. She was a former employee at the Attorney General's office - and is now the in-house counsel at the BTB.

Reports say she was picked to step aside for Retreage because she is the most junior figure on the UDP Senatorial lineup. Of course, it takes away one senator from the North - where the UDP won five of eight seats.
