Wesley School Burglarized By Minors/Former Students
posted (August 2, 2016)
Last night a few crafty burglars ransacked the Wesley Lower School, right down form our studio on Albert Street. It happened around 11:30 and the police and the Acting Vice Principal were called out to the school. Today we went to see the aftermath of the break-in and find out how the school administration and staff will deal with this second hit.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Classes resume on September 5th and the students at the Wesley Lower College are looking forward to see their colorful classroom charts, recite their alphabets, read their story books and participate in fun activities, but the teachers will have to work extra hard to re-create that open and welcoming space for the kids after the school was raided last night.

The underage burglars squeezed in through this upstairs Iron Gate and then rummaged through classrooms, scattering books and supplies, pried open the wall of an old storage area and then made their way downstairs to the kitchen, other classrooms and the main office.

They got in the office by pulling out blocks that closed off this space in the wall and ransacked the place, stealing a number of electronic devices and about $900 in petty cash.

This morning we found Acting vice Principal Lilian Ramos at the school still assessing the damage. She told us what she saw when she arrived last night.

Lilian Ramos, Acting Vice Principal
"I was contacted last night about 12 o'clock and was told that there was a burglary at our school. When I came with the keys to open up, I found the GSU here and they were waiting for me to let them come in. we did a walk through, through the building, and there was several classrooms broken into. When I opened the office, I couldn't get in because the lock was damaged so we had to stamp open the door to get into the office. When I got in there everything was ransacked, books were all over the floor, the drawers were all open, laptops were missing, flat screen TV, speakers and other items."

Although it was too dark for the neighbors' surveillance camera to capture anything, The police still caught up with the burglars: 3 minors and a 42 year old man Kent Cole. They have also recovered some of the stolen items. But what is alarming, is that the 3 minors are former Wesley students.

Lilian Ramos, Acting Vice Principal
"The names I heard are children that pass through this school so they are familiar with the school and the different doors that we have so I believe they know where the weak spots are."

And Ramos says they have to better secure those weak spots so this does not happen for a third time.

Lilian Ramos, Acting Vice Principal
"Last year it happened but most of the damage was done in the kitchen because they threw all the ingredients, ransacked the fridge and the freezer, but this is the worst ever that happened."

As we told you, police have caught the burglars and recovered some of the stolen items.
