City Shelters Filled Up Fast
posted (August 3, 2016)

As you saw in that story, the Belize City shelters were filling up very quickly.  Well, by this afternoon – CEMO had to open more shelters because city residents were going there in droves.  Councillor Phillip Willoughby told us why:…

Phillip Willoughby, City Councilor, CEMO
"Those 5 shelters when open I was briefed about an hour and half ago. Most of those shelters were filled and now we are seeking to open the remaining shelters across Belize City; Southside, Northside."

Jules Vasquez
"Has the shelter response been stronger than you've seen in previous storms?"

Phillip Willoughby, City Councilor, CEMO
"Yes sir and I take this opportunity to say kudos to Jules Vasquez and the people over at Channel 7 for doing an excellent job in bringing the advisory, the requisite relevant information to educate the general populous and I believe by doing this excellent work people have been paying attention and they actually following the storm now."

Jules Vasquez
"Would this rush to the shelters, will you all be able to accommodate everyone who's seeking shelter because we know Richard taught the Southside of Belize City one heck of a lesson last time."

Phillip Willoughby, City Councilor, CEMO
"Yes sir. Measures are being looked at be put in place. As I stated earlier and I will say it again through this medium the shelter capacity might be 120 but if 120 plus 1 comes to the shelter that 1 will not be turned back."
