Police will Keep City Safe Through Extended Power Outage
posted (August 4, 2016)
So, tonight power has been restored to downtown Belize City, but the rest of the city - with the exception of the KHMH area is heading into the second night of a super extended power outage. That puts more strain on the cops who still haven't quote recovered from last night. Today Southside Commander Chester Williams told us how his officer hope to avoid any opportunistic crimes:...

ACP Chester Williams, OC, Eastern Division South
"From the police standpoint operationally concern the fact that the restoration of power will not be in place until tomorrow and again I believe that it will affect mostly Southside Belize City. I just want to assure the residents of Belize City, Southside in particular that despite the fact that there will be no electricity, we'll continue to operate as normal in the sense that the police will be out there in full force to maintain law and order. We'll maintain our presence at the various hurricane shelters that are open across Belize City as well as the gang ridden areas. We want to assure people who live within these areas that the police will still be there, we have mobile patrols. The fact that the water had receded to some extent, we have now put in back some of our foot patrols as well as our motorcycle patrols. All of those were withdrawn last night when the storm came, so we're putting them in incrementally as we see how the water recedes. The police will maintain vigilance to ensure that those persons who have left their homes and are at shelters, that their homes too is safe. We will also be making checks around government buildings and particularly the commercial areas. Last night there was an attempt to burglarize the Scotia Bank on the highway. The police were able to respond and these are things that we know criminals might want to take advantage of so we maintain our presence in the commercial areas to ensure that we prevent any sort of major burglaries at these institutions."
