Cops Reach Out With Relief
posted (August 9, 2016)
Earlier we showed you the Ministry of Human Development teams out distributing relief items to those needy residents affected by the storm. Well, Eastern Division Police, BATSUB soldiers, and even emergent UDP politician Shyne Barrow were out at the shelters giving out food to the Belize City residents trapped in the hurricane shelters.

Our news team was there when Eastern Division South police handed out their donation of food, and we spoke with the Assistant Police Commissioner About it:

ACP Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Division South
"As you know we just went through a storm during which the lives of many persons were altered particularly on the south side of Belize City due to the fact that their homes, to some extent, has been damaged and in some cases have been destroyed totally. We don't think that it would have been wise for us to do meet and greet in a time like this because we know people are still recovering and people are in a state of distress. So we decided to do something for the community still and we decided on the meet and feed. Furthering this initiative, I partnered with the guys from the streets, we have Mr. Underwood from Southside and we have Mr. Meighan from Banak Street. I know often times the public look at these young men as they are monsters and thing that there's is nothing productive that can come out of them in life. This is to show the public that these young people are human beings just like us and the same way how we deserve an opportunity to be able to survive is the same way that they too deserve an opportunity to be able to survive. I would want that people look at this and try to see these young men in a different light rather than the way how we are accustomed to seeing them. each and every one of them are good in their own ways, yes there may have been things that have occurred in the past but myself with my intervention team have been working diligently with these men and I guess you can see the results on our streets. They're working with us to see how we could mitigate the crime situation on Southside Belize City."

Alex Underwood, Assisting with humanitarian efforts
"This is a joy to be a part of this, I've never been in a situation like this before and it's a good feeling. I'm enjoying it right now and I just want to continue do what we are doing with Mr. Williams because the crime slowed down and I feel better knowing that I don't have to go bury any of my friends, or I have to be watching out that kind of way. The police are guiding us, they're security is with us 24/7 and we'll juts continue work with Mr. Williams and make sure this continues just like how it's going. We're going to try our best to not break this up or try to go shoot anyone out there and we'll just stand firm and work with Mr. Williams until everything works out the right way we want it to."

For clarity, we note that neither the Police, the BATSUB and Shyne's operations were connected. They were all simply trying to give their own contributions.
