Mother Claims Innocence For Much Accused Son
posted (August 15, 2016)
Also in our last newscast, we told you about how police finally detained 18 year-old Egbert Baldwin, aka "Eggy". That's after a warrant for his arrest was issued for murder.

Well, he has since been arraigned and remanded for the killing of 32 year-old John Williams, which happened one day before Hurricane Earl hit Belize.

His mother, Enelida Baldwin, is swearing that her son has nothing to do with the murder of John Williams, and on Friday afternoon, before police informed us that he had be captured, she called our studios. She wanted to declare publicly that her son is being targeted, by what she tells us is malicious prosecution.

So, on Saturday,, she granted Daniel Ortiz an interview to explain that first of all, her son was not on the run. She says that he was the one who voluntarily handed himself in to police:

Enelida Baldwin, Mother of "Eggy"
"They didn't find my son. One of my cousins and one of our family friend, they took him in. They did not find him. He went in on his own along with us. I am clarifying that. They never did find him. He was right here. They came here in my house with guns. I have two one year old babies in here along with my 11 year old. They don't need to see those things. But I tolerate them because I have nothing to hide in my house. I don't encourage my kids to do nonsense. My kids are not thieves and not murderers."

Daniel Ortiz
"I am sure you heard on the news last night that Ladyville Police are saying that your son will be charged and arraigned as soon as possible for the murder of John Williams."

Enelida Baldwin, Mother of "Eggy"
"Yes I heard it and to be honest I didn't get surprised about it. When this murder happened, he was right here in this house. We normally eat. After we eat, we sit down and watch TV. We have a TV in here in the living room and one in the other room. He and my other son stay in that room and watch TV. When we were preparing for the weather, because we were listening about concerning the weather while they were also giving the news. We were preparing and I told them that I wasn't going to leave from here because I think we didn't even expect to see that the weather was that strong. So we were all here when we heard that news Wednesday night. The Tuesday night he was right here with us, because we were also watching TV. We always watch TV. After we finished eat, boys that side and the girls this side. Everything that happened with my son is things that were planted on him. Even this murder."

Daniel Ortiz
"Respectfully I have to disagree with you because police have charged your son with two major crimes; one shooting and one robbery. Explain that for us please?"

Enelida Baldwin, Mother of "Eggy"
"Believe you me, the attempted murder that they charged him for the first time, he and Prado were passing by Cynthia house. My next son was also out there. They were all passing by Cynthia house when that shooting happened. They claimed to say that it was my son was involved in that shooting."

Daniel Ortiz
"Can you explained the armed robbery that they charged for as well?"

Enelida Baldwin, Mother of "Eggy"
"No robbery did happen in Ladyville. Everything that they did is just something that they don't want him out here for. They just hate my son."

Today in Magistrate's Court, Baldwin was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith for the charge of murder. He couldn't be granted bail, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 19.
