Churches Say they Cannot Appeal, GOB Must
posted (August 17, 2016)

A press release from the National Evangelical Association of Belize says that over 132 pastors countrywide are calling on the government to launch the appeal.

But now that PM Barrow has said they must because he will not – what will the churches do next?  That’s what we asked NEAB President Pastor Lance Lewis today:

Jules Vasquez
"Prime Minister had said that you all are free to appeal on your own. He's given his knowledge and interpretation of the law; will you all now pursue that appeal?"

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"I think we should and I think we will but we need to do it in conjunction with all the church bodies. It’s going to cost something I don't what yet we have to look at all the factors but I think we should do the appeal. It will be so funny for us not to do it when we are against what was done."

Jules Vasquez
"Now you all sent out a release exhorting the government, asking the government please pursue this appeal. Are you disappointed in the prime minister, the government...."

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"I am disappointed that he is not going to make any appeal but he is telling us that we can make the appeal."

Luis Wade - Plus TV
"Your lawyers have said on record 24 hours ago that it is impossible for an interested party to appeal. They have said it on record."

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"But the prime minister no it is not impossible."

Luis Wade - Plus TV
"Which one do you believe?"

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"He's a lawyer too, they are lawyers; it's a funny question."

Luis Wade - Plus TV
"My question to you sir is very simple, which one do you believe?"

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"I would go by the majority of lawyers’ opinion than the prime minister."

Jules Vasquez
"So then you can't appeal..."

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"We will appeal since he said it. I'll say to them the prime minister said that we can appeal and then go from there."

Jules Vasquez
"Is the government guilty or culpable of some sort of morale failing as so far as not seeing this as the type of morale emergency which the church sees it is?"

Pastor Lance Lewis - NEAB President
"I think so; because they are pursuing other things where as the court has ruled against them, like BTL they have gone and pursue that, they could have pursued this but they do not want to."
