Cops Trying To Catch Kidnapper
posted (September 2, 2016)
Last week, we told you about 9 month-old Baby Aiden Matus, who was kidnapped from his mother in Bella Vista Village. A few hours after the story hit the evening news, the kidnapper or kidnappers abandoned the baby in the Belize City.

The cops found him in the Lord Ridge Cemetery area, and since then, they've been trying to find the men who stole him from his mother. But they're having some difficulties, and they need your help with decoding a clue.

That clue is the recording of a phone call which the mother made to one of the kidnappers frantically pleading with them to give her proof that the baby was still alive. In the tape, the kidnapper is demanding a ransom for his safe return, and you'll hear that now. The cops are hoping that you will recognize the man's voice. Here's that moment when the mother is pleading for picture evidence that he is still alive so that they can agree to pay the money:

Mother of Kidnapped Baby
"Yes, I want to know how is my baby doing."

Kidnapper
"He's alright, he's okay. He's sleeping. He's okay; he's sleeping."

Mother of the Kidnapped Baby
"He's sleeping?"

Kidnapper
"Yes, he's okay."

Mother of the Kidnapped Baby
"So, what do you want, how can we-"

Kidnapper
"So, have you gotten the money already?"

Mother of the Kidnapped Baby
"Yes my - the baby's father is coming with the money. He's here already." All I need to know is that the baby is still alive, that he's okay."

Kidnapper
"Yes, the baby is alive. I am not going to hurt your baby. I am not going to hurt your baby. All I want is the money; that's it, nothing else. I'll call you back when I am coming for the money."

Mother of the Kidnapped Baby
"But you will give me the baby when I give you the money?"

Kidnapper
"Yes, yes, yes, yes."

Mother of the Kidnapped Baby
"Okay, so, can you send me a picture to show me the baby is okay?"

Kidnapper
"I cannot do that. I won't do that. The baby is okay. Trust me. The baby is eating, and the baby is sleeping. The baby is laughing. The baby is okay. I'll call you back when I am coming for the money this evening. Okay? Okay."

So, that's the man's voice, and, Rural Eastern Division Cops are hoping that you have recognized him, and can identify him to you. Assistant Police Commissioner Edward Broaster told us that there is a handsome reward in it for the person who can identify him:

ACP Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"In respect to the investigation as it pertains to the abduction of the child over the weekend, we have been conducting investigations and we have detained a number of persons. However, we have not yet ascertain the individuals that are involved in the kidnaping of the child belonging to Mr. Roque Matus. Nevertheless, we have considered and decided to release a recording of one of the kidnapper abductor demanding payment and we are hoping that any individual who recognizes that individual voice contact the rural eastern division police. We will be offering a handsome reward for the identity of that voice that we have release to the media so that the public can hear and assist us in identifying that individual. We believe that by getting the identity of this individual known on the recording demanding the ransom, that we would be able to crack the case wide open."

If you know the voice you can call or text Ladyville police at 610-5463.

The police tell us that the family is in protective custody while they are investigating the incident.
