A Dangerous Stretch…
posted (October 6, 2016)
And the Camal's were certainly not the first to be held up at gunpoint on that road. Police admit it is a danger zone because of the poor lighting and the overgrowth along the hilly stretch of road. They constantly patrol the area but Superintendent Daniel Arzu says there is only so much they can do.

Supt. Daniel Arzu, OC - Benque Viejo Police
"From our record or statistics will show you that Benque is a low crime rate area. How we come by that? We do proactive policing here and our relationship with our community is very firm. We engage with our community and we establish that bond. So we are a little bit surprise, but at the same token, we managed all our area of responsibility through effective patrolling, be it vehicular patrols or foot patrols and that particular area in deed is of concern to us and we've been patrolling that area effectively. But again, the criminals certainly will not wait for the police to engage or indulge in the criminal activities, they engage in the absence of the police. So it might seem 'look this area is not policed,' but like I said criminals prey over the opportunity and that's what they got and that is what really happens."

There have been several jackings on that road.
