Guat Navy Detains, Releases Belizeans
posted (October 17, 2016)
Information released form the government at newstime tells us that "6 Belizeans were detained earlier this afternoon by a Guatemalan coastal patrol vessel, while they were fishing in the Gulf of Honduras."

Government says "the Guatemalan coastal patrol vessel intercepted the Belizeans…at a point between the mouth of the Moho River, Toledo District, Belize and Punta de Manabique, Izabal, Guatemala. The Guatemalan Navy claimed that the Belizeans were illegally fishing in Guatemala."

The Ministry of foreign Affairs and the BDF intervened immediately and "the Belizeans were released and returned to the location where they were first encountered."

They are now safely back in Punta Gorda town, where the BDF will interview them to get all the facts of the detention.
