The Northern Explorer, the ship which started seismic survey work off the Belizean coast, was sent packing last week. And due to public outcry, seismic surveys in Belizean waters have been halted. Even though, the environmental community was instrumental to this outcome with their whistleblowing efforts, they say that they are still waiting for answers. In a press release sent out today, the Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage restated their request for the establishment of legislation to ban offshore oil exploration in Belizean waters, as well as their appeal to hold a referendum. The Coalition also insists that the government release information connected to the seismic surveys and the multi beam, including contracts and agreements the government made with the exploration company, TGS.
