“Gaza” Man Murdered On San Pedro
posted (October 27, 2016)
Last night we told you about the fatal shooting of convicted prisoner Juan Carlos Martinez on San Pedro. Well, another man was killed on the island last night, but it wasn't police pulling the trigger. 30 year old Jason Gillett also known as "Skilla" was shot and killed in the San Mateo area on San Pedro. Gillett was originally from Belize City and moved to San Pedro 4 years ago with his common law wife. When we spoke to San Pedro police via phone they told us they are still gathering their information in this case.

Supt. Sandra Bodden, OC - San Pedro Police
"Last night between 6:20pm and 6:30pm, police responded of information of shots being fired in the San Mateo area of San Pedro Town. Upon arriving at the location, they saw the lifeless body of one Jason Gillett. He was lying in the middle of the street apparently dead. He had received several gunshots wounds to the upper part of his body. So far police has been following up on some information. We have no viable leads at this time so far."

"What is the police making of this incident? Was he walking from home? Was he going back home? Did someone shoot him there, walk up to him and shot him on the street? Did they follow him? What exactly is the narrative behind this case?"

Supt. Sandra Bodden, OC - San Pedro Police
"Based on the investigation at this time, we are unable to reveal any further information. Like I said we have received some information. We are following up on it, but it is not something that we would be able to reveal at this time. We had no motive. But like I said we are following up on some information and hopefully we may have a break in the investigation soon."

So while police can't give much details at this time, Gillett's common law wife told us that he was hanging out with his friends at his favorite spot in the area when a lone gunman rode passed on a bicycle and shot at the guys, hitting Gillett to the upper body. A post mortem showed that Gillett was shot about 5 times, he was struck to the chest several times and he was also hit to the back of the head.

Now Gillett has had several run-ins with the law on the island. He was charged with attempted murder in 2014, when he allegedly shot four times at a man with whom he'd had a misunderstanding.

He had also been charged for grievous harm and drug trafficking.

The family says he moved to San Pedro to better his life, working as a fisherman. But the family says maybe, his past caught up with him. He is from the George Street area. Gillett leaves behind a 3 year old daughter.
