A Dangriga father who raped his own daughter six times got his sentence reduced today. In 2011, he was sentenced to 75 years after being convicted of 6 counts of unlawful carnal knowledge.
He was accused of having vaginal and anal sex with the daughter when she was between the ages of 8 and 10 years old.
Today at the appeal, three judges who heard his case, namely, Justices Awich, Ducille and Blackman agreed with the father's attorney, Oscar Selgado who argued that the sentence of 75 years was harsh.
The judges reduced the father's sentence to 19 years.
This means that since the father already served 5 years of his time, deducting that 5 years from the now 19 years means he has a total of 12 years and 6 months left to spend in jail.
Attorney, Oscar Selgado said that this means the father will be eligible for parole now.
