Another Killing At Caye, This One Was Retaliation
posted (October 31, 2016)
And the fourth murder we're reporting on tonight, was the first to happen over the weekend. On Friday night, San Pedro saw its second murder in just over 48 hours. This time the victim was a 44 year old working man and father, Antonio Paguada. Originally from Honduras, Paguada had been working and living on the island for many years. He was heading to his home in the San Mateo area on Friday when He was shot and killed - very close to the same spot where Jason Gillett had been gunned down at sundown on Wednesday. The Acting Officer in Charge told us via phone that it's a retaliation:...

Supt. Henry Jemmoth, Acting OC - San Pedro Police
"Initial reports into the investigation is that Mr. Antonio Paguada, a 44-year-old Honduran national who resides in the San Mateo area, he is a laborer, was heading home when he was approached by a male person and was shot 6 times in the chest. We suspect that this is a retaliation for the Jason Gillet murder which occurred a couple days earlier."

"Paguada, was he involved in the underworld, why was he targeted as a retaliation?"

Supt. Henry Jemmoth, Acting OC - San Pedro Police
"We believe that his sons are involved. Because of the involvement of his sons which is why he was targeted."

Jules Vasquez, 7News
"It happened extremely close to where the last murder happened, should you all not have expected a retaliation like this?"

Supt. Henry Jemmoth, Acting OC - San Pedro Police
"Yes and we have QR Team within that area dealing with that issue. I would say that there was a prank call and that was the window of opportunity that the assailants they used to carry out this murder."

Jules Vasquez, 7News
"What will the San Pedro police do to ensure that there is safety and calm on the island particularly as the tourist season comes?"

Supt. Henry Jemmoth, Acting OC - San Pedro Police
"Firstly Jules I would like to say that the feud that is happening between rival persons within certain areas. They keep their incidents between themselves. However, we have ramped up our efforts. We have GSU who are supporting us, strike team, we are also putting in a booth within the San Mateo area if not today then early tomorrow morning. We'll start to manned the area with a booth and have foot patrols within that area."
