UDP On UDP Assault Leaves Man With Cracked Skull
posted (October 31, 2016)
And while that was a case of UDP and PUP beefing, the next case involves a near deadly dispute between UDP and UDP. And it has left Orange Walk resident Gilbert Young Sr., better known as "Malico" is hospitalized tonight at the KHMH, with a cracked skull after he was assaulted, reportedly by one of his good friends.

Reports to 7News are that Young and his attacker were at a football game and they were socializing together and having a few drinks. Unfortunately, their interactions turned from friendly to hostile, and it escalated to the point where the man, whose name we cannot release at this time, pulled a tire iron and struck him in the head with it.

The man was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, and he was later transferred to the KHMH, where the doctors were able to perform life-saving surgery. We asked the Police about it, and they were very sparing with the details:

Supt. Selvin Tillett, OC - Orange Walk Police
"We had an incident where a person was hit with a spanner to his head. One Frederick Young, of Savannah Street, Orange Walk, claimed that he was walking in the Louisiana Area when a male person stopped their vehicle; they had a confrontation, and the person got out, got what appeared to be a wheel spanner and hit him in the head. Mr. Young was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, then to the K.H.M.H., where it was noted that he had a fractured skull. So far police have detained one person, pending investigation."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"Do police know what is the cause of this assault?"

Supt. Selvin Tillett, OC - Orange Walk Police
"At this moment no, because as we understand, both are well-known to each other and they are co-workers, so we don't what was the problem, that caused this issue."

Young and his alleged attacker are UDP stalwarts from the Orange Walk East Constituency, which means they are constituents of New Police Minister, Elodio Aragon Jr. He declared in this Facebook post that he will not get involved to influence police investigators one way or the other.

That post from this morning says, quote, "...I do not know the reasons or how this came about but I am sad that such an incident happened. I have spoken to "Malico's" daughter, and (I) kept abreast of his situation, and (I) pray for his recovery. Since getting the news, I have asked the police in Orange Walk to carry out their duties and investigation so that justice can be served." End quote.
